The Deacons, fifteen elected members of the congregation, play an important
role in the social and local mission work of Gwynedd Square.
The Deacons visit shut-ins and elderly members of the community. The group
also organizes and serves at the church picnic in June, the Thanksgiving
breakfast, as well as other dinners and social events throughout the year.
The health and well-being of elderly and impoverished people in the
community are a major focus for the Deacons. We give year-round support to
the Senior Dairy Day Program run by Manna on Main Street of Lansdale. The
service provides dairy foods to the elderly and to those in need.
For additional local mission work, the Deacons spend three months of each
year focused on one of these charities: Nehemiah's Way and Laurel House,
that provide shelter for women and children from abusive situations;
Community Housing, which gives interim housing and teaches independent
living skills for those in need; and special projects for the Thanksgiving
and Christmas holidays. Last year, the Deacons gave holiday assistance to
Presbyterian Children's Village, North Penn Convalescent Center, Hope
Prison Ministries, and Community Housing families.
Special collections from the Gwynedd Square congregation assist the Deacons
in their most vital social and mission work.
