Here are some useful links for Presbyterians:
The web site of the Presbyterian Church, USA
contains an index of Presbyterian congregations, news about the Presbyterian Church USA, daily readings, background information about the church, mission information, and lots of other interesting stuff.
The PCUSA organization produces a monthly magazine called Presbyterians Today.
This magazine is for the people of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), offering information about the Presbyterian Church and
its mission, a Christian perspective on contemporary issues, and guidance for daily living. If you are interested in obtaining a
subscription, please contact the church office.
There's an independent organization, the Presbyterian Outlook Foundation, that produces
a publication on the web called
The Presbyterian Outlook. The publication dates back 180 years and provides
information and commentary independent of the church's governing body. Its mission
is "to promote free and independent discussion of issues confronting the Presbyterian
Church, to disseminate accurate information about developments in the Christian Church
in general and the Presbyterian Church in particular, to advance understanding of the
Reformed faith in its historic and contemporary meaning, to promote study of the
Christian message, to develop an informed constituency of Presbyterians who can
contribute their talents to the life and mission of both the Presbyterian Church
and the whole body of believers, to promote preaching the Christian gospel,
establishing churches and nurturing Presbyterian communities to insure the survival of
the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as a vital Christian community."
The
Book of Confessions from the Presbyterian Church (USA) can be found on the Web.
There are some very inspiring things here, and you can also learn a bit about the
history of the church and its thought.
The Bible and Other Readings
You can find the Bible, as well as useful facts about it, at several locations on the
web.
The Bible Gateway
contains online versions of Bible chapters.
The International Bible
Society has been providing Scriptures since 1809, and is now providing them on the
web.
Christian readings, other than the Bible, can be found at the
Christian Classics Ethereal
Library. The site provides a wide variety of classic books related to
Christianity, all of which are in the public domain, so that you may copy them
freely for any purpose.
Humor
Can religion be humorous? You bet it can. Check out the good, clean, religious
humor at
Eculaugh.com ! Plenty of jokes to spice up even the driest sermon!
Cyberchurch
Can't make it to church this Sunday? You can still enjoy the pleasures of worship,
by attending the First Church of
Cyberspace. The site was founded by the Central Presbyterian Church of Montclair,
NJ, and is now sponsored by a consortium of ecumenical churches and interested
individuals. The sponsors believe in using cyberspace to help people find God and
to communicate the faith.
Religious Research
If you're doing serious research on religion, the
Virtual
Religion Index, compiled by the Religion Department at Rutgers University, is
the place to start. It really helps cut down your time spent searching, with links
to every site on religion imaginable.
Religious Music
If you enjoy listening to church music, you'll love the
Cyber Hymnal. At
this site you'll find over 1,700 Christian hymns and Gospel songs from many
denominations. There are lyrics, sound, background information, photos, links,
MIDI files and scores you can download.
Other Churches
Here are some interesting web sites of other churches:
The Aldan Union Church has
a site that includes many links (though they aren't annotated) to various Christian organizations as well as churches in Pennsylvania, and kid's links (under the Children's button).
The East Tulsa Christian Church
has a very suitable site for kids, with some very clever material, including lots of
animation.
General Interest
A great web site, with lots of interesting items for Christians is
Crosswalk.com.
The site includes help for Bible study, a filtering program for searching the
web while blocking bad sites, and many articles of interest to Christians (not
just about Christianity).
