Gwynedd Square Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church(USA) (PCUSA) and is Reformed in doctrine. The government of this church is representational and all leaders of the church are elected by the members.
The session is the council for the congregation composed of the ruling elders and the pastor. The pastor is the moderator of the session. The session has the responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.
Teaching Elders are also known as Ministers of the Word and Sacrament. At Gwynedd Square Presbyterian Church, the Teaching Elder is our pastor, who administers sacraments, preaches and teaches the Word, cares for the members, and is in charge of the administration of the church.
Ruling Elders, together with the pastor, are members of the Session and exercise leadership, government, and discipline for the life of a particular church. They are to be persons of faith, dedication, and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel. It is their duty to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation.
