Gwynedd Square offers a variety
of social opportunities for its members, including C-Farers
(a general social/service group), a women's association,
TAGS (a group focusing on those 50 years of age and
older), STAGS (a men's luncheon group), and a book group.
• C-Farers
C-Farers (Farers for Christ) is
a service and social group made up of couples, families with children, and
singles of all ages. It is open to all church members and friends and can
be joined at any time during the year.
C-Farers is organized along nautical lines. At Gwynedd Square, there are
currently four ships, each with a pair of captains and one or two first
mates. The ship officers help coordinate and publicize ship activities as
well as serve on the Admiralty Board. The Board plans four major fleet
functions for the year that are open to the entire church. Fleet functions
can be either intergenerational activities, such as an Easter egg hunt or
Halloween party; or they can be for adults only, such as a Hawaiian Luau.
Each ship meets monthly for activities that can range from playing board
games over coffee and dessert, to museum and theater outings followed by a
restaurant meal. One ship (Kinship) is specifically devoted to families
with children. Examples of past Kinship events include a bowling party, a
game night, a trip to a pumpkin farm, and a children's holiday program.
In addition to social activities, each ship adopts a "cargo
project" focused on a particular Christian mission,
such as helping a needy family with food or baking cookies for shut-ins
around the holidays.
• Women's Association
Our women's association consists
of three Circles. One meets the second Monday evening each month; the
second meets the second Tuesday morning each month; and the third meets the
second Thursday afternoon each month. Meetings are held in the homes or at
the church, depending on the size of the group. At these monthly meetings,
there is a Bible study, a discussion of local or worldwide missions, and
prayers for those in need both locally and throughout the world. These
meetings serve both as a religious learning session and as a social time to
get to know other women of the church. The members of the Circles donate
funds to support various mission organizations.
Twice a year, there are special evening dinners for all women and girls of
the church. These dinners are followed by a guest speaker. Also, twice a
year (in the spring and the fall) the women organize and conduct a rummage
sale to add money to the treasury, which is used to support the church's
mission work.
Two groups of women have formed to meet monthly for fellowship, joining
each other for dinner at a local restaurant. Details appear in the Spire or
the Sunday church bulletin. Contact the church office for further details.
• Together at Gwynedd Square (TAGS)
TAGS is a social group for those
50 years of age and older, but everyone is welcome to join in the
fellowship and fun. Activities include monthly day trips (mostly by private
car), luncheons, and projects such as memorial gifts, bake sales for the
Christian Education department, or assisting at other church functions.
• Staying Together at Gwynedd Square (STAGS)
An informal men's group, called
STAGS (Sticking Together At Gwynedd Square), meets for lunch on the second
Wednesday of each month. Retirees and other interested men are welcome to
join for fellowship and food. Please contact the church office for more
information.
• Betsy’s Book Club
Betsy’s Book Club meets every
two or three months to discuss one or two books members' choosing. Past
titles include My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira and Cleopatra by
Stacy Schiff. Please join us! You are welcome to attend even if you
have not finished current selection(s). Watch the Church Bulletin for
information.
