Hospitality Evangelism Tip #27: Volunteer to participate in a neighborhood
“inquiry canvass” to identify potential prospects. (Note:
Most people who are initially nervous about this activity come back from
it saying, “That wasn’t bad at all! When
can we go again?”) ["Practice
hospitality." ~ Romans 12:13b]
Welcome:
We welcome Rev. Steven R. Garstad
to our pulpit today. As many of you
know, Steve served as interim at GSPC from 1999 to 2002. Since leaving Gwynedd Square he has held
interim positions at Central Presbyterian in Downingtown, Director of Kirkwood
Camp, and Grace Presbyterian in Jenkintown.
Staff Vacation: Pastor Dave Poland will be on vacation
through Saturday night, August 23. If
pastoral care is needed during this time, please call the church office or
contact Rev. Steve Garstad on his cell phone at 610-999-2111.
An Orientation Meeting for all Sunday School teachers and Children’s Church leaders/helpers is scheduled for today, following the second service.
Faith in Films: Membership and Evangelism has scheduled another opportunity to watch an enjoyable movie (popcorn provided) followed by an informal discussion. Join us at 7 p.m. on August 20 in fellowship hall.
Referral Needed: Do you know of a reputable snow removal
company (with references) that you can recommend to the Property
Committee? If so, please drop a note to
Bill McGarvey in his mailbox with the name, phone # and address. Also please note how you are familiar with
the company and let Bill know who you are and how to best contact you.
Farewell Reception: A
farewell reception will be held on Sunday, August 31 following each worship
service in honor of Al T. Henderson, who is leaving Gwynedd Square as our
Director of Ministry to Children and Youth (effective at the end of the day on
Aug. 31). Please join us for refreshments in the narthex to bid Al T.
good bye and to thank him for his ministry and service to our church.
Farewell Gift: The
Session extends an invitation to anyone interested in contributing
money to a special farewell/thank you cash gift for Al T. Simply state on the "memo" line of
your check "Al T thank you" or write those words on a piece of paper
or on the pew envelope. We will put all gifts together and present him
with this thank you gift prior to his departure.
Back
to School Supplies: G.S.P.C. is
collecting school supplies for Chester Eastside AND Hope Prison Ministries this
summer/fall. Backpacks are most welcome. Other school supplies
include pencils, pens, markers, binders, crayons, highlighters, colored
pencils, calculators, glue sticks, and erasers. Any other school supplies
are also most appreciated. Collection Deadline is Aug. 31. Thanks in advance for your generosity
GSPC 50th
Anniversary Wall of Crosses: We’ve begun to receive contributions for
the “Wall of Crosses” to be displayed in the sanctuary throughout the
commemoration celebration of Gwynedd Square’s 50th Anniversary. We
invite everyone - individuals and families - to participate in this
project. We encourage you to make a
cross, purchase a cross, or share one already displayed in your home. If there is a special story associated with
your cross, please write it down so it also can be shared. The
crosses should be no longer than 20 inches, no wider than 15 inches, and have a
flat back to allow for mounting on the wall.
Wood, stone, metal, glass, macaroni, painted, stitched – purchased or
made by you – make it fun; make it meaningful!
We will begin to hang the crosses in September and will
continue accepting contributions through March 2009. Please give your cross to any anniversary
committee member. Your cross will be
returned to you by the end of summer 2009.
50th Anniversary Committee:
Nancy Barr, Diane Butt, Anita Lamond, Ruth Linn, Sandy Taylor, Nancy
Weber, chair.
Teachers Needed: Do you enjoy working with 9-12
year-olds or are you just a big kid at heart yourself? Are you
comfortable teaching ALL you know about God and his word? Then do we have
the position for you. We are currently recruiting for two (2) teachers
for our 4th-6th grade Sunday school class. This is a great group of
children who will keep the class interesting. If this sounds like
something right up your alley, please contact Bonnie Kinsey ASAP.
Children’s Church Volunteers needed: Children’s church is a time of learning and
fun for children 3 years old through second grade during the 10:45 service (10
a.m. during the summer). Volunteers are
needed to help teach and assist.
Teachers are on a rotating schedule and usually teach about one Sunday
every two months. If you would like more
information, or if you would like to volunteer, please contact Nanci Landes.
Name
Tags: We encourage the use of
name tags so we may greet each other by name.
If you would like to have a permanent name tag (either because you are
new to GSPC or because yours has been misplaced), whether you are a member or a
regular visitor, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex (on the end of the
counter closest to the outside door) and be sure to specify if you want a pin
or clip holder.
Reminder:
There is a sign-up chart on the bulletin board in the narthex for flowers
every week. These are $20 per vase and
can be placed in the church in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Make your check payable to Gwynedd Square
Presbyterian Church, place it in a pew envelope, mark it “flowers,” and place
the envelope in the offering plate. Let
us remember or celebrate with you!
(Note: The flower arrangement is in a green plastic vase or liner that
fits into the brass urn. The liner must stay at the church to be reused. See a
deacon or the church secretary to have the flowers transferred to another
container if you want to take the flowers home with you after the second
service.)
Attention Coffee Drinkers! The deacons are in need of empty large coffee cans (39 oz. cans). We use them to deliver the Sunday flowers to homes after the service. Please bring your empty and rinsed cans to the church office or give to any deacon.
