Good Friday Tenebrae Service

Tenebrae is the Latin word meaning “darkness”. The service of Tenebrae has been practiced since medieval times and is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. This service will incorporate readings, music and diminishing darkness to capture the drama and emotion of the crucifixion. When the darkness is complete, we will hear the “strepitus” , a loud sound that conveys the death of Jesus. Worshippers leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ’s death and wait the Resurrection celebration.
